Cool products to work on and good experience. Remote work is easy if that is something you want.
Work just as hard as other tech companies for less money. You have to make senior or else you will eventually be let go.
Good work life balance and workload is manageble. Learn Things
Management is really bad. Not clear guide in career development.
Hello friends, Anyone here who came here on student visa for MS plus PHD ? Questions are - Do we need to apply for PhD once we complete MS or there are programs which are sort of integrated PhD along with MS ? If one were to apply separate PhD course after completing Master's , how he or she wou...Read more
What is your opinion about a masters or PhD in gerontology? Would you consider this a useful or in-demand degree/expertise for HCPs? #healthcare #gerontology
Any idea about the pay for fresh PhD holder at those tech companies? Say data scientist or applied scientist position?
Does MS or PhD play important role when people are being promoted to higher position (staff or above) and they not only lead projects but also come up with new tech for future (i.e. given chance to research and experiment) thereby helping company discover new areas?
SDE, MS + 5 years of experience and making give or take ~320k in Bay Area. How much a PhD holder makes in general ? How much more compare to a MS or BS holder ?
If you had the option, what would you pick? I am curious.
As a new grad from a tier #1 college in India and earning decently well, I still don't feel satisfied with software engineering in general, I am interested in studying more and getting into research. Is it worthwhile to leave a comfortable developer job and life in India and go abroad and take a hi...Read more
I am a software engineer with 16 years of experience in IT. Lately, I've been feeling a bit stuck and unsure about where to go next in my career. I hold a bachelor's degree in engineering and an MBA. Do you think it's worth pursuing a master's or PhD at this point in my career? or any other suggesti...Read more
I see a senior SWE who has enrolled masters and phd degrees while working for his company google. is this possible? do they temporarily quit working and still get paid during degree or do they keep working and study at the same time?
With only a BS degree, is it harder to get promoted to senior SWE-ML/MLE than to get promoted to senior SWE (normal)? “Senior” in terms of pay band. Say 300k.
How possible is it for a US uni (I am at one of UCB/CMU/MIT/Stanford) to waive all graduate courses and just go straight to Research only. I've already done 2 graduate degrees and have publications (My MS in the US was a consequence of not getting into a PhD). I just cannot go through graduate cour...Read more
Currently a new grad CS major from a pretty good Cs school but have no MS/PHD. If I decide to go into a Product ML team at Facebook and stay in the ML space (probably more oriented towards the product/infra side rather than deep research side), how hard is it to jump to similar roles at other tech c...Read more
Still in college, never really cared about grades but could probably graduate with ~3.6 if i wanted to finish strong. Let’s say Im really good at what I do, would a lack of graduate degree become a limiting factor? What if I want to go into management, what would limit me if I graduate with a medioc...Read more
Is it worth to get a MS/Phd from iits ? Planning to broaden the scope for Applied Scientists or moving to academic line. TC : 14 Yoe : ~2 #facebook #apple
I never had interest in research and was drawn to software engineering in the real world. But after a year in the industry it feels like the cool projects go to those folks and I’m stuck with fixing bugs. I feel like I’ll always be the dumbest guy in a room full of PhDs or MS from top schools. Worth...Read more
6 months of STEM OPT and considering all the alternatives. I have a BS from a US university, so I can get a Master's and/or Ph.D. and get back into the market (and even try to qualify for O1 in the future if I play my cards right). On the other hand, I'm thinking that moving to Canada might be a goo...Read more
Hi, I already have a PhD from a US university and currently working fulltime on F1-STEM OPT. Unfortunately this was my last year at H1 lottery and I didn't get picked. I am thinking of applying for Day1-cpt program to continue working on the side. Since I already have a PhD, I am wondering if I can...Read more
For mechanical engineering majors at Apple, what was the TC you started with? Maybe YOE along with it would also be beneficial. Thank you #apple #mechanical #hardware #offer
Should I get MS online in comp sci to break into SWE role? Previously, I thought this option was ridiculous and I only need to Leetcode since I have math PhD but with job market these days I'm not sure.
