No doubt, the exploration, the hardware, the scientific wonder, there's only one place like this. The rank and file are some of the brightest minds, they have passion and they love the community and love to help. There is a sense of we're in this together, and it is uplifting.
Management is slowly transforming this into just another tech operation. Metrics aren't shared, decisions are made based on in-transparent data in a top-down mindset. Proclamations of we are a family, all-the-while there's little room for growth in entrenched structures, subpar compensation, and now the reality of layoffs due to government shutdowns. IC's passions for their projects are ruthlessly exploited, because where else will they go to work on these challenges. The shine is wearing off, and there's a long way to go to recapture what used to inspire us.
shoot, didnt realize govt agencies werent immune to layoffs. :( SpaceX to the rescue?! https://gizmodo.com/nasa-jpl-layoffs-mars-sample-budget-cuts-1851234726
NASA JPL laid off over 100 contractors because the budget hasn’t passed. They are being ultra conservative and assuming they will get the worst case budget which is 1/3rd of last years. It’s infuriating to watch congress flounder about with the budget 3 months into the FY. I’m really depressed about...Read more
How come we have billions to fund foreign governments but don't have money to pay our government employees? https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/jpl-workforce-update
Might be a long shot since I’ve never seen anyone with the NASA company tag...but has anyone had experience working or interviewing for a position at the JPL? What was the work-life-balance like? What was the workflow process like? Could you get things done or was the coding process very procedural...Read more
Going to be a crap day in Pasadena tomorrow. Nearly 600 employees are getting let go tomorrow.
I work at the NASA Jet propulsion Lab. JPL is technically on a NASA site but is owned by Caltech, so it gets some benefits to being sort of government but also sort of a contractor... Well, it turns out this works nicely for their business model. They receive 90% of public money for NASA HQ to miti...Read more
I am looking actively for a job at NASA, after my internship there a few years ago I learned most of the employees are working for contractors and not as federal GS employees. Anyone have insight on what contractors hire at Johnson Space Center Texas ? I know Jacobs Engineering is one of them.
How come NASA/SpaceX stuff isn’t discussed here? There’s plenty of talk about FAANG and even 2/3 tier private companies. But I feel NASA is same or even higher tier than FAANG? They are primarily a tech company. Arguably the most interesting tech. Similar for SpaceX. I know many of y’all are on H1...Read more
Which of these has been kicking ass lately & who would you put your money on for future successful missions. Apparently Chandrayaan-3 has already detected the presence of a bunch of elements on the lunar South Pole for the first time!
My friend is really interested in working for nasa, anyone willing to give referral? They know the pay is 🥜 but idk, thanks

Thinking of applying for NASA, but are they prestigious? Or are they just another entity of the government? I heard they pay pretty low too.
Trying to break into aerospace from ad tech/infrastructure development - heard amazing things about NASA's JPL too. Any idea how to break into the space, or recruitment firms to talk to?
Current TC 320k Bay area Nasa TC 120k great work amazing wlb. No RSU etc is it worth it?
Any engineers working at NASA or Space X who transferred from Facebook or Google? Would love to know how the life is at there comparatively? Super fascinated with all the work down there :)
Hello, Just got an interiew for an EPM position with NASA. Does anyone have any interview tips or anything that I can study during the month before my interview or tips for on the job? #nasa #interview #epm Thanks
I saw somewhere that folks who majored Physics or PhD in Physics usually have one of the highest IQs, even higher than mathematicians.. With that said. do you think these astrophysicists or whatever we call these researchers that study space, planets, and stars are intellectually smarter than SWEs?...Read more
