Lots of competent colleagues; you will work with good engineers who can get things done. The infra is pretty good which enables you to be productive. Perks are great and all-cash compensation is pretty nice too.
Management in engineering is so-so from my experience, really good explicit communication but also not willing to put the right process in place to make planning and execution as efficient as it could be. The company is changing a lot right now as it transitions from the old no-level world to a more typical organization with lots of juniors, fair number of seniors, and a few staff+. I think the change will be for the best in the long run but the culture hasn't quite adapted yet.
Just trying to understand what kind of issues / limitations you face while watching VR/ 360 videos on Netflix or YouTube. Are there features that you would love to have ?
Minus Netflix, no FAANG in top pay (except meta at principal level) Sorry googlers, I’m sure this will make you all fume knowing Google is not what it once was (the coping awaits in the comments) Although, I’ll admit Databricks and stripe in particular are paper money right now. Also AR/VR killin...Read more

But, looking at some of the LinkedIn job descriptions, I don't know where to start other than learning Unity. Hi, I was wondering if anyone here working at Netflix could provide me with a referral? I know I can apply directly on the Netflix job site, but having a referral would increase the chances of my resume being seen. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone personally at Netflix. If someone could refer me...Read more
Hey y'all, I got laid off about a month ago and have been having trouble even getting interviews since I'm still early-career. I have about 2 years of experience, particularly in developing AR/VR applications. I'm also open to other fields within software engineering, not just AR/VR. I would reall...Read more
https://www.levels.fyi/blog/2023-mid-year-report.html My quick takes: - By engineering specialty: AR/VR is surprisingly the leader in TC, Blockchain TC is down dramatically - A program manager (TPM) on average makes more than software engineers - Databricks leads the TC charts at the 3 levels most ...Read more
Among the 5, which do you think will survive till at least 2100? I believe Netflix will soon die due to increasing competition from Disney+, Prime and others. They will become more of a movie production house than a tech company. Next will be Facebook - people are becoming more aware of their priv...Read more
Considering swinging for the fences for my next (last??) career move. TC and aspects of culture make Netflix very attractive, but hope to learn more about some "culture" type things. Are there usually opportunities to "branch out" within Netflix, or are engineers there generally very specialized an...Read more
I've been offered an offer at Northrop Grumman. I was an intern there for a little over 8 months, prior to that I did other development positions, primarily web development. I'm looking for another position because I know I won't be challenged or develop much. Outside of work related projects I've ...Read more
My portfolio consists of drab 0 to 1 enterprise products that I helped take from one line ideas to shipped products. I have worked as a lean UX team of one. Keep getting radio silence from FAANG+, and my guess is that my projects are too straightforward and with no mobile, VR, deep UXR studies etc....Read more
I'm currently a L5 embedded specialist in Google. The specialty is nice in that it's extremely easy to break into divisions that need my niche (e.g. AR/VR, Self Driving, IoT, etc). However, there are a couple of downsides that I see relative to my peers in backend: - Niche specialty means that I'm ...Read more
No insider information here, but sharing my predictions: Facebook - Won't collapse or go bankrupt, but will drop out of Fortune 100.
