How do you approach your career: is it a fast sprint to the FIRE finish line or a slow and steady marathon of 35+ years until you can retire with gray hair past 60?
Average tenure in IT is probably like 2 years. What you believe for your career, Sprint or Marathon? Sprint, change companies frequently and get best salaries. Marathon, stay and ensure promotion happens with average tenure. just stick for long.
Do you folks as engineers ever feel like pushing your career aggressively in terms of trying to get to the highest level in the shortest time seems like a marginal return as far as cost involved (extra hours, playing politics etc) meaning if I just do great work as a engineer and grow, after 10-15 y...Read more
2 yoe, 245k I’m still new to my field, but does this job ever calm down? Do you ever reach a point where you’ve more or less seen everything and the stress dies off? What is your take on managers telling you “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” when talking about career progression, taking new roles, being choosy about your next step, etc.
Quarterly planning, sprints, performance reviews, layoffs, LC and interviews, learn new frameworks and next cool stuff during the weekend. Rinse and repeat. It’s so tiring. F myself for choosing a tech career for money Tc 400k

And the sad part is that they promote and encourage people from IT service background over someone who has worked in product based companies throughout their career. And these mediocre and talentless managers actually insult engineers during sprint meetings. This behaviour is very different than pro...Read more
