Teradata compensation is strong and if you work in a technical role, the product is very good at what it does. If your job is to work with existing Teradata users or you work in data science, there are smart people here who love what they do.
Teradata is desperately fighting the perception that they are aging technology that lacks innovation. But the perception is spot on in many ways. They were late to the cloud, their first major cloud product is not being talked about and not doing well, so they're trying hard to create a perception around the direction they're headed. However, execution is not there. This is still an aging technology and Teradata is not landing any new logos, they're just clinging to existing customers who ALL have initiatives to migrate away in some form or fashion. We are not seriously considered in anyone's future plans. We are seen as expensive. Every forecast call talks about how much of our business is eroding, and every strategy call talks about how badly customers want to leave us but "can't". On top of this, layoffs are happening and there's no end in sight. There's the typical talk about how this is streamlining and making us better, but really, it's just cutting costs at the lower levels before ELT heads have to roll. Executive team is not involved enough in large deals and they are very out of touch with where we stand in the market. They are too busy chasing speaking engagements and scrounging for partners, but we are not being taken seriously as a company and Teradata is blaming everything except the product and leadership. Culturally, we pretend there's no "friday meetings" during summers, but that kind of thing is completely ignored if you're anywhere in the sales umbrella. Taking PTO is frowned upon. You can expect emails and messages on weekends and late into the evening. Surprisingly poor health insurance and very weak benefits for a large tech company, by the way. Just another example of dinosaur tech that's on its way out. Yet there's no shortage of diversity trainings and other social initiatives, a clear indicator that we are doing everything except acknowledging what really matters here, which is how we fit in the the market and in our customers' plans for the future.
What is it like to work at Teradata? What is the culture like? What is the compensation like for a Principal Engineer/TPM? What are benefits like? How easy/difficult is it to build a career at this company? Serious responses only! Thanks!
A 40 year old company that is trying to transform for the past 5 years but still has no clue. Leadership is in denial that Snowflake and other cloud providers are eating away their logos and still claim they are leaders in performance. Product management and development is a joke with incompetent le...Read more

Both of these are for the Bellevue offices. Expedia is a bit of a known - laid back culture, good work life...Read more
This could have been my first job offer in 2021 after getting PIPed from Amazon in 2020. However, when I was almost there, Teradata, untruthfully, rescinded to give a formal offer despite all the positive feedbacks, refrained from filing an H1B transfer without even trying, given that I advised the...Read more
