All these big mfer companies screw their employees left right. Treat them like vegetables . Make work hard, fire and then hire because they know there is another sucked in line to do over the same. In the same company employees work in fear and do More for Less (new norm) without hesitation or any p...Read more

Seeing the bloody layoffs in Twitter this morning really make me feel that the workers union are necessary. Capitalists like Elon Musk can ‘force’/‘expect’ his workers to work 80 hours a week while they might get layoffs anytime is such an exploitative behavior. If the capitalist who owns the compa...Read more

TC around 350, >15 YOE. When did we engineers start accepting 24/7 availability as a reasonable job requirement, even periodically? Did no one ever push back? Whenever unions get mentioned, there's always a pushback along the lines of "I can negotiate a better deal myself" - well, anyone actually

Unions are not just about pay. It's about job security, work life balance, and not being treated like expendable code monkeys. The book, The Good Enough Job, has a great chapter on the first tech company union at Kickstarter for those curious on how to form a union. And if you're curious about th...Read more
Yes I know the layoffs are bad right now. But advocating for unions just because the industry hit the first rough patch in years is just ludicrous. Union isn't going to save you from being laid off. But it will stop you from getting a raise over someone who worked in the company longer than you. T...Read more
By law companies have to negotiate layoffs with unions, which leads to seeing all the financials of the company, negotiating the number, reduce the chance it happens by surprise without union members' knowledge, and set clauses on prioritizing re-hiring union members who were laid off when the compa...Read more
