The Vinton Dogwood Festival Committee is asking residents, businesses, and volunteers to help create a unique parade in time for the Vinton Dogwood Festival.

Each of the videos is about a minute long and has health care providers from around the state, including Carilion Clinic's medical director for infection ad prevention Dr. Anthony Baffoe-Bonnie and senior director of retail pharmacy Chad Alvarez.

(WDBJ) - A hometown healthcare hero was honored with a 2020 Governor's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Award on Saturday during a virtual presentation. Daniel Freeman, R.N., Carilion Clinic earned "The Governor's EMS Award for Nurse with Outstanding Contribution to EMS." The honors recognize outstanding EMS providers and organizations throughout the state for their demonstrated level of excellence and dedication to the EMS system.

Martinsville, which for so long had lagged statistically in vaccine distribution, now has seen 24.2% of its roughly 12,852 residents to have received one shot (second only to Henry County's 24.4% in the district), and 9.3% are fully vaccinated. Statewide totals now are nearly 2 million having received one shot, and nearly 1.1 million fully vaccinated.

A year ago on Saturday, Carilion officials held a press conference to talk about the preparations they were making for the pandemic. Days later, the first COVID-19 case in the area was seen. While demand still outpaces supplies of COVID-19 vaccines, there are signs that within weeks it will become easier for everyone to get an appointment in the Roanoke region. Dr. Cynthia Morrow, director of the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts, said Friday that she expects soon to open up vaccinations to more essential workers and then to everyone, as they have reached nearly all of the elderly, most vulnerable residents.
