“Meh”
Pros- If you're working on the new product line, the tech stack is fairly modern and growing every day.
- Lots of flexibility in work/life balance (unless something is broken).
- Impactful work
Cons- Was recently acquired by a holding company, future is uncertain.
- They are no longer giving options in the company, parent company's employee stock purchase plan is mediocre, as is the stock value/growth.
- They pay on the 60% percentile of your area, which is decent, but not competitive in high demand roles.
- Depending on your team you may have to deal with "smart assholes" or people who have checked out.
- There is a bit of a "cool kids club" with the senior employees
- Communication is crap, backchannels are rampant. They don't use Microsoft Teams properly and so everyone communicates in private chat threads, making public chats dead.
- A lot of stress was induced by the sales team selling products that didn't exist yet.
- There's a lot of pressure to super-man everything, there are a few engineers who became the go-to for everything and it feels like the caliber of people we hire aren't up to the challenge of stepping up to bat.
- There are two product stacks, one is ancient, the other is modern with ancient dependencies.
- Senior engineers are expected to do project and people management and technical implementation, not enough time in a day
- The solution to "we need more people" was to offshore / nearshore
“Used to be great. Now it doesn't.”
