“Unicorn with early startups mindset ”
Pros* Unicorn in LATAM
* Good salary (for LATAM, but now not so much)
* You learn a lot by catching up to a fast-pacing environment.
* Depends on the team, but you may work with exceptional people.
* Múltiples programming languages used by different teams.
* If lucky, you might get access to some training resources.
* Real-time big-scale infrastructure that comes with interesting challenges, including synchronisation between teams and much more.
Cons* Toxic culture y leadership
* Zero WLB
* 24/7 oncalls
* Unfit or non-tech managers
* Zero filter for business ad-hoc requests
* Zero infra access or control (there's a dedicated devops and dba team)
* You need a lot of networking to have the sighlest possibility to grow or to get stock options (and probably some external offers)
* Missing CEO
* Unclear (or un existing) career path
* Only spansih
* AWFULLY incompetent HR and payroll
* Endless meetings
* Tech leads with huge gaps
* No best practices in many things, such as CI, Integration tests, unit tests, automated QA, End-end testing,...
* Unclear promotion criteria
* Bad office set-up and amenities (like no coffee or always-full bathrooms) (I think it has changed since they went full remote after covid)
* "We are a family" mindset
* Zero recognition
Reasons for ResignationI was fed up with the toxic culture. I even got a counter offer to be promoted as a tech lead, even being on the company one year, but I ended up moving to a FAANG.
WLB is precious. You may learn a lot in Rappi, but it's not worth it. Likewise, you can learn the same, if not more, in other companies with a different mindset.
