“Sane, friendly startup with some issues”

Pros* Mature, high revenue startup with a non-evil business model and solid growth prospects.

* Empathetic, people-first culture. Good work life balance and LOTS of collaboration and support. You will always have many folks you can turn to for help.

* True remote with no future plans of going hybrid.

* Eng org skews senior and has some great talent.

Cons* Conservative on headcount so teams are always understaffed. Doesn't usually result in crunch but frustrating because there's a lot of high-impact projects that you'll never get to.

* Ultimately a platform company and not a tech company. Engineering priorities change a lot from quarter to quarter and feel top-down and opaque.

* Because the eng team is so senior, there's sometimes months of unnecessary debate, analysis, and bikeshedding around obviously broken things that could have been fixed in the time it took to discuss it.

* You will absolutely not get promoted by keeping your head down and doing solid work. You need to be loud and visible.
