There is still amazing people to work with and very interesting projects. However, budget in projects is very dull and depends how well the project leads convince management for a chunk of the cake. The company offers great benefits (healthcare, etc).
Politics and poor execution are killing the company. Too many people likes to talk and present slides. Minimal budget is hard to achieve for a project. In research we donāt have access to any hardware for doing AI, and we donāt have access to data. Barely any travel is allowed and the company is reluctant to progress and AI. Old management that is not open to listen or to progress. Too much investment is going to factories that are just losing money. Stock bonuses are down by 40% in the past three years, heavily reducing TC. The bonuses given are also shrinking by the same amount such as the company is paying less with the expectation that stock will rise. The opposite is happening.
The layoffs and cost-cutting that Intel Corp. executives recently warned about have begun in California, with a couple of hundred employees set to lose their jobs next month, and manufacturing employees worldwide being offered unpaid leave. I just got offered Manufacturing Tech job at Intel Hillsboro, which I consider foot in the door step. I am planning to finish up Mechanical Engineering degree (BS) through Intel. I will be in my middle 40's by then. How difficult will be to get an internal offer for HWE or Mech Eng position?
I've seen this a lot at Intel during my time here (less than 10 years). Recent examples are 2 task forces , one where the "issue" was proven by modelling to not cause impact to performance but the lead says "if we don't fix it we look bad". Second instance , a minor issue was found that can't even b...Read more

What caused the rise of AMD after years of fighting Intel unsuccessfully? Is it really because Lisa Su is a genius, or she just got lucky? Is it purely because Intel failed in 10nm manufacturing? Or is there something fundamental to this rise? If so, can AMD overtake NVidia?
