Posting on behalf of a friend ---- Got an offer for IC6 from FB London. I got connected to a few teams but none of them working on consumer facing apps. Recruiter told me that there is a hiring sprint & unless the sprint is over (most of the jobs in the sprint found takers), a new sprint wont start ...Read more
I can do technical stuff fine, like fixing bugs writing code. As long as work flows down to me, I get tickets on a sprint. Pretty straightforward. I can deliver But at Amazon, what else would I supposed to be doing? Am I going to get random emails about req, designing apps/services from scratch, wr...Read more
I work 1-2 hours a day mostly, no sprints/scrums/standups - I work in IS&S org, which accounts for Apple Music, TV, News, App Store, Apple pay etc. (Specific team shall not be named) My manager doesn't ask me what I'm working on, I give him status updates once in two weeks. I get good refreshers, ...Read more
I have a very typical problem, I coast and procastinate my sprint tasks like crazy. In 2 week sprint, I literally do nothing in first week, mostly surf youtube, blind etc., And when work starts piling up, I complain about bad WLB. It is not that I'm not interested in tech space. Anyone facing simil...Read more
I’m quite curious on how many people do you all have on your mobile teams. I work for a startup and at most we had four people on the iOS Team and four on Android. Our main product is our mobile app. Workload is overwhelming and every 2 week sprint ends up becoming 3 weeks.
Hypothetically, say I have a theoretically profitable idea/additional feature to an existing app. I know if I build a stand alone product, it will be eaten up in one sprint time by the tech giants. How can I pitch this idea to a PM at the company to either impress her with design thinking knowledge ...Read more
My team owns a huge amount of web apps, Micro services, automation tools, develops some new ones in OCI. There are atleast 10 technologies (old to new) which these apps are built on. Manager keeps randomly assigning tasks from any of these in a given sprint. I'm simply not allowed to stick to one...Read more

Whatsapp was handling billion messages(infact more I assume) on new year eve with 55 engineers and that was before Facebook acquiring them. A guy from Poland or some country single handedly created Adobe photoshop alternate. Plenty of fish dating site was built by one person and he sold it for 150...Read more
I get the overall concept what it is, but I am not sure why my current project is using it. Honestly don't get why they cant copy these files to the server, run chmod and chown, start a few Linux services, host the damn app and move on to the next project. Seems like a whole lot of effort for nothi...Read more
How common are SWE jobs that are remote and work under 20 hours? A bug fix here, minor feature push to legacy code, etc. Looking to see if it’s a option for a little break. Currently building a new app with constant sprints. Tired of having to use vacation just for a breather. I don’t need to m...Read more
I was doing Leg Curls, and there was a guy next-to me trying to do Leg Presses. He seemed to look around trying to find something and then left. I later saw him doing chest presses incorrectly. I thought probably his first time so before I left the gym I went to him and showed him the app I was usi...Read more
Airbnb’s iOS app is such a mess. I sometimes wonder how can a company which pays its engineers so much can’t fix its app. I love airbnb and I use it extensively but the app drives me crazy. In no particular order let me quickly point out some major major problems - (a) The problem of unread notific...Read more

Are we just here to complete our Jira stories for the sprint? Find the next highest TC job? Make a ton of money to impress people who won’t even be here in 100 years? Pop out a few kids who then have to do the next generations Jira stories? Travel this spinning globe we had no choice to live on? Wo...Read more
How does your company/teams handle code reviews? 1. Do you always checkout every branch and manually test that it looks right/works right/has no blatant regressions (assuming you also have automated tests in place, with decent but not perfect coverage) 2. Do you only review the diff and its code ...Read more
Coworker straight up reverted my feature because it was conflicting with his PR... The tests were failing (on his branch after merging master, was working fine on mine and in master) and he couldn’t figure out why they were failing (obviously because he resolved conflicts incorrectly, but I guess h...Read more
There is a lot of unclarity with respect to goals in the team. No one seems to know anything about the project and I find myself stumbling in the dark many times. There is not a lot of coding, but my team leads(are new) seem to over-engineer and find unnecessary problems in my code reviews, code tha...Read more
