Good pay and benefits , nice work/life balance; smart colleagues, free lunch
The old culture of Google where employees are encouraged to speak up is gone. Lots of yes men and the morale and work suffers for it
And I guess it is similar in many other companies. You either need a referral or should not be a white man. Otherwise no chance of getting interview or promotion #google #gemini
Google seems to be quick in pulling the plug when a project is not doing so well. What happens to your promotion if the project that you’re a part of is killed? Does it have a negative impact on your promotion? Or is promo independent from the outcome of your project? #swe #engineering #software
How easy/hard is it to get promoted at Google and what is the criteria/process for PM promotions.
Was about to ask folks here about promotion levels at Google and are folks generally happy 😊 but it seems not according to this Googlegeist survey. I was hoping to jump the bandwagon but not so sure anymore 😕 https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/14/google-employees-growing-unhappy-with-pay-and-promotions...Read more
I've read a lot about how difficult it can be to get promoted at Google, and was wondering how this would affect me as a new grad joining the company. How difficult is it to get to L4? And realistically, how long would it take to get to L5? Does it matter if I'm at a remote office (Seattle)? This is...Read more
Hi, I received Google offer for T4. There is not much hope of getting promotion to sde3 in Amazon due to recent reorgs happening in my team. Also, learning is limited as there are no good projects in my team, everyone is doing rest and vest. I am considering Google offer. How easy/difficult is it ...Read more
I am nearing one year at google with “Transformative Impact” rating (top rating) . I was clearly low balled(L3) when I was hired and see myself a level up. I spoke to my manager and he agrees I am a L4, but mentioned tenure is too less for a promotion. What can I do to expedite my promotion? YoE - ...Read more
Can folks worked or working at google share their promotion experience? Like how many years it takes from one level to other.. and if possible what kind of raises/refreshes at each level.. This could help wannabe googlers .. thanks in advance
Expecting to get a G offer soon and completed team match. Based on discussion with HM I suspect that they are planning to offer E5. Based on levels.fyi this is something of a down level compared to Amazon l6 SDE. Question for googlers, what does the promotion process look like to l6 at google? Ho...Read more
What advise would u give an incoming #noogler How can I excel and succeed in my role? How can I achieve promotion as early as possible as I believe I am hired on L4, though I believe I deserve L5! And tell me about internal moves? Is it allowed after 12 months or 6 months? Since there will be a r...Read more
I’m coming into google as an L3 with 1-2 years experience. What does it take to get promoted to the next level? How fast could I achieve this? How should I approach this subject with my manager?
My promotion is rejected this cycle, the feedback is “all are good, just need consistent performance during the next cycle”. IMO there is no real feedback as no improvement area is suggested. Also what do they mean by “consistent performance”? I already get a SEE last cycle, there is no rating thi...Read more
What does the promotion committee consider when evaluating if an employee should be promoted? Do they consider everything? Including how well (or not well) the employee performed during interviews?
A question out of curiosity. How does the compensation change when one gets promoted at Google? Base salary increase, higher refresher base rate, what else? Does one get new RSU grants, or is it that one only gets RSU grants when either joining the first time or getting a retention package? How doe...Read more
How many promotion cycles does Google have per year? When does it take place typically?
I am at L5 and want to get L6 ASAP (as if no one else wants a promo 🤣). However, I know I don’t have a shot this year but may have one next year. Should I still apply for promo this year? I’ve heard that rarely anyone gets promoted first time they apply, so would applying this time tick the box for...Read more
From what I heard, in term of median promotion timeline e3 -> e4 at Facebook takes 1-1.5y and e4 -> e5 is like 2y. While l3 -> l4 and l4 -> l5 take 1.5-2y and 2.5y respectively at Google. Are the above numbers correct?
Outside of a promotion, what are your salary increases after 1 review cycle?
I'm joining Google GCP new grad L3 in Jan 2024. I have 4 years of work ex till now and can learn new things in a decent amount of time, also am willing to spend extra hours to perform better. How is the process of promotion to L4? Like how fast can one aim to get promoted? What kind of rating is req...Read more
