Compensation is not bad since the recruiters are so desperate to fill their jobs asap that you can ask for the world without any attention to internal compression.
It’s a dog eat dog world now. No longer is Gap the company that values or supports family or cares about employee engagement, loyalty or tenure. You move up by who you know and how you look. Forget about diversity in the workplace. That’s all lip service. If you’re white and tall, this place is perfect for you.
***This is a controversial take a few days before 4th of July*** It's common knowledge that the revenue required to fund Social Security is woefully inadequate with persistent funding shortfalls. The percentage of retiring Americans is growing and their medical needs is growing much faster than th...Read more
Posting for my roommate who is wrapping up (getting kicked out since his boss ran out of funding) his applied math postdoc. Honestly I think both companies are lowballing and down-levelling him given his experience but he's just grateful to get a job given the economic conditions. TLDR: He doesn't ...Read more
I am struggling to decide between my top three offers, which are for Meta, a Hedge Fund (think Citadel, Jane Street, Two Sigma, etc.) and a London based HFT firm (you'll likely know the name but want to protect my privacy). The offers are: Meta (E5): TC ~£203k (109, $420/4 years, 15% bonus), plus £...Read more
I have a self-managed 3-fund index fund portfolio in vanguard, and a small investment at wealthfront with risk score of 9. While vanguard index funds have lower expense ratios, wealthfront provides tax-loss harvesting which can close the gap. Is there any analysis or pointers to the comparison two m...Read more
Let's forget about the immigration status, funding, personal commitments etc. Do you think your 5 years of software engineering experience ( from coding to leading projects or sprint planning, estimation etc.) gives you enough confidence to start a company? If yes, what experiences have helped you?...Read more
Where I came from, in case of housing market decline to a point where I owe more than current market price, lender can ask for additional funding to fill the gap (though it’s not generally done if loaner has good payment record). Is this the case for 🇺🇸?
I have an app idea but am wondering if a phone-gap would suffice in VC demos for pre-seed funding. I can then take the funding and use it to hire a proper app developer to make the actual app. For context, I have 0 technical experience. Seems like many demos these days are just done with a pitch de...Read more
A side gig app I was building for "fun" after work and weekends got attention of a notable VC. After answering some questions, I just received the news that they want to invest mid-high 6 figures into it for 10%. I don't want to quit my day job since I'm not 100% passionate about my app, nor is the...Read more

I didn’t come up with this but a surprising amount of people don’t know about it, so I’m sharing again. Have a gap in your resume? Want a gap for personal reasons? Make a startup! 1. Start an LLC (very cheap) 2. Come up with some BS mission statement, spend a week throwing together a website with ...Read more

Redmond/Sammamish is super hot, homes are selling at 15-20% above listing price. Buying home would need 20% down, appraisal gap and additional money in closing. At 1.6m, it will cost be 400-500k cash. I am wondering if I should continue renting for 3.5k for another year and invest cash in market f...Read more

The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 is the policy playbook for a second Trump administration, and its impacts on immigration would be far more complex and destructive than previously reported. It isn’t simply a refresh of first-term ideas, dusted off and ready to be re-implemented. Rather, it ref...Read more
We must rise up against the 0.1% trying to get FAANG to only pay workers with cash. Stock based comp RSUs and options are the only things that work. Trickle down economics does not get the 60k salary employee money needed to fund a family. Stockbased comp gets us closer to a more equal society with...Read more
This can be a #personalfinance post too. I guess I’m really fortunate to have good NW and good income. I have 10 YOE, a NW of 7.5 MM and annual income of ~$550k. This is due to some wise financial and career decisions early in life, as well as a modest life style - no interest in lavish spending. ...Read more
