Lots of competent colleagues; you will work with good engineers who can get things done. The infra is pretty good which enables you to be productive. Perks are great and all-cash compensation is pretty nice too.
Management in engineering is so-so from my experience, really good explicit communication but also not willing to put the right process in place to make planning and execution as efficient as it could be. The company is changing a lot right now as it transitions from the old no-level world to a more typical organization with lots of juniors, fair number of seniors, and a few staff+. I think the change will be for the best in the long run but the culture hasn't quite adapted yet.
Netflix has let go of 3 marketing executives after the thr trios conversation talking negatively about their bosses were captured and seen by senior management. According to the article none of the comments were abusive or disparaging, there was no need for termination This also raises interesting...Read more

What are the worst places you could be a designer? My top 5: - Meta — Most designers and leaders here are talentless robots. Design is more performative than influential. - Any bank — Almost everyone I know working in fintech or banking is miserable. Ethics are constantly challenged and/or igno...Read more
I took the last month to recuperate (combo of sleeping at odd hours, Netflix and gym) after working 7 straight years at various tech companies. I've only voluntarily resigned to change into my next job. My boss gave me a phone call, I shit you not before she said another word after "how's your day" ...Read more

It's the summer of 2023, right in the heat of July. I'm sitting in a cold, air-conditioned office in the fanciest building in Calgary, staring down an ancient Cisco phone that looks like it's seen better days and a Windows computer that’s so slow, I swear I can see the hourglass mocking me.
