The people are very experienced and there are a few interesting projects happening.
I have had both good managers and bad ones; te disheartening part is that there is no way we can complain about most bad ones. The hikes and appraisals are peanuts even with a great performance review; almost no career growth.
Hey folks anyone aware of what ibm policy is on non-competes once you leave and join a competitor. Can you refer colleagues from IBM when you leave ibm Can we approach our clients from IBM once we join a competitor. If not how long should we wait until we can. Can't remember what one signed up fo...Read more
All big techs have mean streaks, sometimes unintended consequences. My employer will score high for obvious reasons. AirBnB made cities more unaffordable for middle class, Uber squeezes drivers with below minimum wage, Microsoft used to be the big satan taking that over from IBM, Apple and Samsung s...Read more
I was thinking of leaving IBM, but I may to come back later in my life. Someone suggested if I leave to work for a competitor it would look... And it would be even worse if I leave to work for a client (I'm a consultant). Do you think that's true, in that IBM would even care?
I have looked at what has happened in recent days to the stock price of Meta's competitors like Snap and Pinterest and have determined that the market hasn't yet fully priced in the effects of reduced advertising spending into Meta's stock price. After the next earnings call things will become crys...Read more
Yes he was a vice president when he said that statement and it wasn't that long ago. It basically tells you all you need to know about IBM. He is still employed here. He doesn't take Google seriously or many other competitors, IBMs strategy is to ignore the facts as irrelevant. Maybe it's their delu...Read more
Everyone else is running away with AI, and the competitors are closing in on Google from every side. Google Brain is training and bleeding the top talent, who then turn around and build the things to bring Google down. Meanwhile, Sundar and his yes men are busy cutting cafeteria costs and appeasing...Read more
Would greatly appreciate some feedback from those already in the industry. I'm currently interviewing with a number of firms, Protiviti, Promontory, and McKinsey to name a few and each appear to have their pros/cons. The most interesting to me is Promontory, which is a part of IBM. I have been in fi...Read more
Here’s a dumb question… What do Google, Microsoft, and Apple’s competitors use for email, spreadsheets etc? I work at Microsoft and we have Android apps and iOS apps, and clearly we don’t have company cars, but what do companies like Amazon, Tesla, Nvidia, IBM, Meta, etc. use for email and spreads...Read more
I think now is as good a time as any to unthrone some of these tech companies. They’ve grandfathered themselves the same way IBM has done. All of their effort goes towards straying from their genesis technologies to maintain relevance but they’re doing a bad job at it, also eating competition, stum...Read more
Honestly, this DD requires a lot of critical thinking. If that’s not your jam, please enjoy this cartoon of Alex Karp crushing the competition, then scroll down to the bottom of the DD where you’ll find my plan for the end of my lockup plus a few diamond emojiis, a couple of hand emojiis and a bunch...Read more
There is a huge gap in pay between FAANG, unicorns that recruit from FAANG, and everybody else. At the same time, so so many people want to work for FAANG that they have to reject many good engineers. Therefore I see a discontinuity in the supply and demand of labor for FAANG and yet these companies...Read more
Folks. I'm just going to throw out my picks as often as I'd feel like. If you are feeling venturous, jump in. #yolo https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/stellar/ Stellar hooked up with a deal with IBM. They are blowing up. They need a few larger partnerships to get the level that XRP is at....Read more
We have these discussions internally but what do you all think? Personally, I’m not sure if their business model can survive in 10 years to still be a market leader. Maybe as an IBM. This is my opinion: prove me wrong. - Bard has a long way to go. - Google search has globally already lost over 6%...Read more
I resigned this week and accepted a new job. Now my previous job is really pushing me to do some consulting work to keep their project moving. I'm not sure what the new company's policy is on this. I was at IBM before and I signed an agreement to not work for any competitor, which is basically any t...Read more
So I just did an interview with a consulting company. First time really interviewing but I think I got the role. However, I’m starting to have doubts. I until just recently was learning to code, going down the SWE route, and even got an interview from Amazon (which I asked the recruiter if she coul...Read more
Bit of background - I'm a somewhat recent grad (1.5 years post graduation) with substantial student loan debt and credit card debt (my spouse and I each spent 6+ months unemployed in the last year). My spouse is still currently unemployed and waiting for their grad program to start (they stay home w...Read more
Hi all, I’m a long term stock research enthusiast and have been following the last few earnings calls from tech companies. The way Amazon used their Rivian investment to overreport their earnings per share as ~$27 instead of ~$4 pumping up their stock to $3250 in Jan-Feb looked like a great selling ...Read more
"Animal Farm" by George Orwell is a timeless book that offers valuable lessons about power, manipulation, and the dangers of blind loyalty. Orwell's satirical take on Communist and Stalinist Russia remains relevant even in the 21st century. The story revolves around a group of pigs led by their lead...Read more
