* PTO is pretty good * Can be great if you’re on a good team. * Not a bad job out of college
My review was a little more positive before I was reorged without any input as to where I would go * TC is below average for SWE. This was somewhat okay before RTO, now with mandatory 3 days a week in office, it’s inexcusable. * career development in software development/engineering is basically non-existent. * A lot of incompetent nontechnical leadership running technical teams. They tend to be micromanagers. Also a surprising amount of PMs that don’t know anything about their own projects. * on the topic of incompetent leadership, RTO has been abysmal. Not enough desks or parking in some locations. Something the workforce have warned about for a year+ * If you’re good at something, leadership will exploit you and overall disrespect your time. * Your 401k matching doesn’t vest at all until 3 years. There are actually quite a few interesting mechanisms that almost seem orchestrated to keep you stuck at GM.

I'm planning to join Cruise as a senior machine learning engineer. However, since I already experienced layoffs in January, I'm concerned that I may be laid off again in this tough job market. Trying to gather as much information as possible if I were laid off. GM seems like they’re doing rounds of layoffs disguised as VSP or closing down plants etc (no one is safe). Are those individuals who are getting laid off getting severances?
How are things inside GM? I am currently applying there but with news about Ford today, is GM doing good or what? Only insiders will know Tc 105k

Will probably make another post like this closer to start date, just want to get opinions. I’m a recent college grad whose Amazon start date was moved back from January to July. I’ve been working as a SWE at General Motors for 9 months now, which will be 1 year by the time I start at zon. I’m wonde...Read more

In GM, Ford or Tesla? I know they had a big layoff last year, any rumors they will do the same this year?
Heard rumors of layoffs due to the old CEOs failures and GM investors getting antsy. Any cruise folks have info? Answer is confirmed yes: https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/cruise-driverless-car-layoffs-morale-low-18537641.php
