Need referrals for companies hiring in London for SWE/Quant role #hiring #london #layoffs
Im wondering if I should make the change to quant dev. Im currently a builder (not swe) and was considering making the change internally. With the layoffs and potentially more to come I came across quant dev which looks interesting. Not particularly interested in finance. I am vey young in my career...Read more
For the last few months, despite thousands of layoffs the number of recruiters hitting my inbox has increased. All of these are for financial companies for quant/normal dev positions. I'm surprised they're still reaching out despite possibly laid off people to reach out to
Getting laid off soon from quant fund while on OPT. Want to continue a finance career but SWE jobs have lower bar. Will it be a bad move to go to a SWE position that’s not tier 1? Will it be much harder to return to finance? #layoff TC: 100k YOE: 1
Im really interested in quant finance, but haven’t heard amazing things about SWE at SIG. New grad comp seems to be better at Amazon but not too sure about all the layoffs. Would SIG help with getting more software focused HFT interviews in the future?(JS, HRT, 2sig, etc.)
I'm looking for my first full time job (getting my Masters soon) and I got offers from Optiver as a Trader, Bloomberg as a SWE, or DE Shaw as a Quant. Obviously TC and location are considerations, but imagine they were all equal. Just in terms of surviving 2023 (e.g. avoiding layoffs), company pres...Read more
With all this talk of a recession in the near future, is it safe to join a quantitative hedge fund like Two Sigma as a SWE? On the one hand, the volatility could be an opportunity for them to make more money, but seems like it could go bad too with clients pulling out their invested funds. Is there...Read more
Hi, posting a genuine inquiry here as Blind has helped me tremendously in the past in getting into SWE roles. I did a bit of thinking amidst all these layoff craziness and realized that I would like to specialize soon so I can start developing domain expertise. I’ve been thinking about quant dev/hft...Read more

Laid off from a quant hedge fund last month when they cut ~30% of the company. Anyone got referrals for SRE/platform eng/similar? Market is shit, and I'm getting no hits on applications without referrals. Was L5 SysDE at AWS until 2020, was IC3 SRE at Dropbox. Want remote, targeting 180 base, 250 ...Read more
I know guys in investment banking, private equity. Their salaries dwarf ours, their career progression is nothing compared to even FAANG. It’s somewhat comparable to quants I guess, but it’s just a whole different level of money, dudes making 850k in their mid 30s, it’s ridiculous. I used to tell m...Read more
I'm a recent Master's in Financial Engineering with 6 months of work experience as a data scientist. However, while at school I dreamt of starting out as an entry level quant. Graduating in the middle of "hiring freeze" and "layoffs" took it's toll. Also, not to mention that I am on a student visa (...Read more
Two things have been proven to be very important over time: diversity in your skillset and niche expertise in an useful area. AI dev is not an easy career to get into, you have to be a good programmer and a sharp person with good analytical skills and math prowess. It requires at least 2 different ...Read more
Hi, I'm a Final year engineering undergrad from Delhi, India. I've previously interned at Microsoft and Airtel as a SWE. Let’s face it - last couple of years have been weird in tech. Hiring booms followed by mass layoffs. Kind of a good time for non tech orgs to fill tech roles that have been chronically understaffed. I personally have been approached for gov roles touting the ‘safe, 9-5, decent pay’ appeal. Also hea...Read more
