      Yes! And the amount of units is (usually) locked for 4 years. If unfortunately the company stocks goes down too much. Roll the dice again with another one.
      There are also nuances so read the contract, e.g. sometimes itā€™s front loaded (30%, 30%, 25%, 15%), vest monthlyā€¦

      In financial applications future value of $ is always worth less than present value, because of inflation or opportunity cost.

      In other words, 600K extra salary over 4 years, is less than 600K given today and then ā€œunlockedā€ over 4 years. As @BoLeK3s pointed out šŸ˜Š

      If you invested the salary in the same stock it would be getting in at a later point. Could be better if stock went down, but on average, it would be assumed worse to get in later (based on stock market historical averages of about 10% increase/yr).

      Tax treatment is same as mentioned above.
