Need help on product sense interview

Add: I’m interviewing for product manager role

I didn’t do well on Facebook’s product sense interview. It takes me a long time to identify user segments and propose solutions when I anwser product design and improvement questions. So my answers are not quick and concise. The recruiter mentioned that he couldn’t give me any feedback due to legal liability.

I have an interview coming up with Lyft. I would appreciate any tips on how to better prepare for product sense questions. I have read cracking the PM Interview, decode and conquer, and I’m currently reading the pm Interview.

  • Just practice the interviews as much as possible. I made a list of all the product sense type interview sample questions I could find and then started practicing them out loud to myself one by one. I started slowly, but then over time started to time myself, by giving myself a minute at the start to put my thoughts together and then talk through it out loud. Practicing over and over made it easier to come up with the segments and solutions more quickly. Remember they don’t have to be perfect, just logical.

Thank you! That’s helpful. I usually practice in my head and take my time. It’s a good idea to practice out loud and time myself. Do you know roughly how many questions you have practiced or how many hours of practice it takes to reach a stage where you can come up with an answer quickly?

    • I did probably 35 complete questions out loud and then repeated ones I had a hard time with. In the two weeks leading up to the interviews I probably studied 15-20 hrs a week.

You can find example questions on Glassdoor, stellar peers, etc. you can literally google, ‘FB product sense interview questions’ or in your case OP, Lyft.
