Is it true that verkada has quarterly layoff ? Also how is the engineering culture ? 10-20-30-40 vesting seems like a scam to keep you in for long. Has the culture improved after the bad press ?
Engineering layoffs are regular here for petty reasons.
Just due to disagreements with management? Or is there also Amazon-style URA goals?
@Apple Theres both URA goals set at 1-2 engineers per manager (stack ranked). If you get in any disagreements with higher management (Rob, Martin, Fk, or especially Hans) you will be terminated within the week.
I’m in engineering, have been here since 2019, and have never heard of layoffs on any team outside of sales. I know AEs can get cut if they don’t do well or show effort after 3/4 quarters. Engineering culture was never bad. The bad press just made things suck for awhile. And the vesting schedule isn’t good honestly but if you are here long term like me, it doesn’t matter.
Then you're an idiot. Theres layoffs every single quarter at Verkada. Members of each engineering team are stack ranked by the managers and the bottom ones are cut.
Nope. I work here and that’s patently false. Low performers are managed out like any company. There is no stack ranking or mandatory layoffs. We had one round of layoffs when Covid hit. 10% of the engineers were let go. Since then, no layoffs, only low performers managed out.
No layoff
Is the vesting schedule like that - 10 /20/30/40 ?
Can someone refer me at Verkada ? 🥺

Engineering layoffs or other departments?
Every department has layoffs, the retention goals are set by Hans. Anyone who doesn't know about them is either too low level or blind.
I talk to hans all the time and am in the Eng calibration meetings. I’m not an executive btw. You’re simply wrong about engineering. Sales does let low performers go more quickly but there are no mandatory layoffs.
