Job market is brutal for SWEs 🥲
Does it top off at 300-350k for senior software engineer? Since they don't have higher levels, how do they retain talent?
Their hiring bar is pretty high too. They wanted a medium and a hard in 45 min and you have to manually code the test cases
The new hires and freshers have been offered very high salaries whereas the present folks haven't been matched up, I know that new experienced hires in NY are being offered 300-350K
Yeah but how's the wage growth like?
I work in Singapore got a 4% hike when I joined 2 months short of a full year. I was told during hiring that I wouldn't get a hike last year but I still got 4% so was happy
Existing employees don't have the same growth as probably at some other big tech but hey it's super chill
You join BB out of college, then either leave in 2-3 years, or get stuck for life. Both types have reason to stay here, due to what people have already alluded to, in this thread. There is also a sizeable chunk who are using BB as a temporary landing place to move to NYC area, and then leave for greener pastures. Its a decent/good company, though not the best for tech. Also, many good engineers forcefully become TL (some good, mostly bad) to grow(which actually hurts the company in the long term). I am guessing this 2 level initiative came from someone very high up in management and hence no one questions this thing. Also, its a good ploy to save money on IC compensation. I am guessing some ICs are able to increase their comp by re-negotiating with competing offers and threatening to leave. So, I would not be surprised if there are a few ICs that actually earn a lot
my plan as well. Moved from another state for a very large TC boost (even when considering COL). 100k Maryland -> 225k NYC, 4.5 yoe Im a senior swe here. Gonna become a TL and then try and secure a team lead / senior swe at a smaller company later.
Considering an offer here 210 TC and extra 15k to move to NYC. Senior Software Engineer role. For negotiations is it better to ask for more base or more bonus? (As they don't offer stock)
this is peanuts (Especially since you are being given SSE role). Ask for more base and bonus. I would seriously consider rejecting the offer altogether. NYC is really expensive and Bloomberg is not a good place if you are not paid at least high comp to begin with. Ultimately, it needs to be your decision
What’s Bloomberg ‘high’ comp number?
Fb and G give 400k to seniors and it goes up
Well yeah bbg isnt G or fb
