Seriously don't lie. You: I got an offer for Y amount from company X
Recruiter: [calling her buddy at company X]: "hey I have a candidate her for company Z that says they have a competing offer from you guys, is that true? Oh there's no candidate by name? I see. Well I will make a note of that, let me send you his email and first and last name, so that he can be on your do not interview list. "
Recruiter: (calling you): "we're sorry, we're going to have to rescind the offer.
Recruiters go from many companies to others, they job hop pretty often too and they may have a buddy still at a previous company. So if I were you, just keep your morals in check and don't lie.
Secondly, if they find out about it after you're employed that may be grounds for termination.
Microsoft is right. Also no recruiter in their right mind would risk soliciting with another company and no one would risk sharing confidential info about who is interviewing with them. Having said that, OP for your own sake, unpopular opinion, but don't lie.
There is an interview with exponent and one of the levels . fyi folks that talks about this. They say even if you do have competing offers, just say you want to respect the fact that most companies want to keep their offers confidential. That will explain why you canβt share the specific numbers or any written offers.

Also there's 0% chance anyone would find out or care anyways.
