I lived on the East Coast for 5 years and traveled for work a lot in NYC. Never really saw it as a livable city tbh, but there’s a post-covid surge of young techies moving there and I have some FOMO.

Can someone convince me that NYC is in fact overrated?

    • What TC would you say you need to have to listen live as you described but also save money etc?

    • I was making 130-165k at the time. Lived with two roommates and paid like 1200/month in rent for a good location with 1.5 baths.

The older you get the more TC you need but as long as you have a decent job you’ll be fine.

Haha no I’ve always had a gf haven’t been single in years but my boys all got females without much game. The bars were so much fun

NYC is for young singles. If you want to raise a family, move to Long Island. LIRR is fairly reliable. There are some neighborhoods in Brooklyn which are great too.

    • Maybe not the LES, but UWS sure is. There’s kids everywhere. How freeing you be a kid and able to ride the subway wherever you want to go rather than have to rely on parents to drive you everywhere until you’re 16.

    • Not exactly safe to let a kid ride a subway alone, but to each their own. And FYI I live in the UES which is known to be one of the most family friendly areas. NYC is still not family friendly in general. Depends on your values, but I personally want more outdoor activities for the little ones and a house with a yard type of thing.

I would be interested to see how many people raise kids here from birth to adulthood vs people like me who raise kids here for a few years. I would bet there is a big difference.

  • Some techie dudes think they’ll get laid with no game in NYC, but I actually think you’ll have a lot more competition there from non tech dudes, who only got game and no money/career...
If one has game, this can be done in any city, especially Bay Area because most of the tech dudes in Bay don’t have any game
