I'm doing an onsite with #databricks soon for what would be a #remote position. I live on the east coast in an area with a much lower cost of living than SV, and I'm having trouble gauging how to approach the question of salary if they ask first.

I've heard never to give a number first, but it seems reasonable of them to ask what I make now ($145k, 21 YOE) which is slightly above average for this area.

It's hard to find data points for a senior Databricks position, but it seems like $180k plus bonus and stock is close. I just don't know if they adjust downward for remote positions. Anyone dealt with this before?

  • Are they based in CA? If so, they cannot ask you what you make now. Make sure you don't volunteer that information on your own.

  • How were you able to find a remote position with them? Did you just apply and ask?

I've been told by Databricks recruiters that all positions possible are open to remote. Even many not posted as such

Yes, they're in SF. I did not know that was a CA law. Thank you!
