Why would one ever refer a strong peer to Amazon?

My team is hiring. I work in a support/devops team so my team supports software teams. Since we are short on engineers, I have to support 2 teams instead of 1. So the sensible thing to do here would be for me refer someone that can get hired so I'll have less workload right? However, this is #Amazon and you have to be better than 50% of your peers for job security. In that case, why would I ever refer a strong candidate who could potentially jeopardize my job security in the future? Wanna hear some opinions. Thanks!
