My spouse got a new job and started working. She is already covered under my benefits. My medical benefit is pretty good but dental benefit is not that great. Can she sign up for dental benefits alone in her company, so that she has better coverage?
Or is it not allowed for one person to have dental insurance coverage at two places?

Thanks.

I think you can do exactly that...just don't opt her in for dental at your employer

You can do it. We have the same scenario and works pretty well.

Thank you. To clarify, you mean you have your spouse in your dental insurance as dependent and he/she has another one at their workplace?

  • You can do it if your dentist sends insurance claims to the right places. Most likely they will mess up and you will end up spending hours on the phone figuring out which insurance covers what. Easier solution would be removing her from your coverage, which you can do at this point since her employment is considered as qualified event.
