Got an offer for FB E4 (165/360/75). From the other posts in blind, this looks like a good (top of the band, if not max?) offer for E4. Recruiter also told me that the interview feedback was very positive and they expect me to get promoted in 1 or 2 cycles.

I want to hear from folks who got in as E4 with a good YOE (> 5 years) and made the transition to E5. How much time did it take for the promotion? What are the key things that FB looks at for this transition? Should I trust the 1-2 cycle promotion timeline given by the recruiter?

TC at Amazon: 200K
YOE: 6 years + Masters

Took me about 3 years after joining as E4 with top of band offer and 4 YOE. Being โ€œtop of bandโ€ has zero influence on promotion timeline.

Don't believe anything the recruiter says. Make your own informed decision. Ask to talk to the HM, and their skip. Find out how many people they have promoted from E4 to E5 and how long it took. Ask what made them E5 material.

  • I joined last year with similar offers and 5 yoe before. It depends on performance but assuming you do good like EE then 2-3 halfโ€™s is possible.

I would say donโ€™t concentrate to much on level. From my personal experience it is good to come at lower level with better salary.

When I select FB officer, I had another offer with better level and slightly better pay like 25k. After talking to people I know at both companies decide to join FB and by looking at my salary growth I am glad I did that.

    • When you do bootcamp task with team try to answer this. Are people respectful and helpful when you ping them to ask something or they feel annoyed? Are there only bachelors or married people with kids in team? Itโ€™s hard to do WFH but do people come and leave office on time? How is on call?

I wouldnโ€™t choose a team which doesnโ€™t have these qualities no matter how awesome work they have.

  • It's a top L4 offer, but don't be fooled by recruiters BS. They don't decide when you promote.

33 months is the worst case. Average would be around 24 I guess. You can definitely aim for 12 or 18. Even if it slips to 24, are you loosing much in the long run?

Also, FB comp is outright better than your Amazon comp.

Amazon: this year = 200, next year (letโ€™s say Amazon had a massive stock growth and you got a TT) = 250. Total 450.

Facebook: this year = 330, next year (letโ€™s say FB had the worst year with 20% stock down) = 237. Total 567.

No reason to contemplate on the offer!
