Charge 33% of yearly salary per year as fee for H1-B visa and use the fee to train American workers. Remove the limit. The market will do the rest.

I agree. It’s best to have multiple tech hubs so that no one needs to worry about working in Silicon Valley to make the best compensation. It will accelerate this shift if US govt stars making it harder for bringing in employees here. It’s a win win for everyone. Plus they may not even need to pay as much as Silicon Valley. They could get better quality engineers for lower cost

Love how Americans know nothing about how their immigration system works yet are happy to engage in fact free discussions. You guys realise that under existing H1B system, the visa fees are primarily supposed to be used for "retraining Americans" right?

Man this whole immigration politics is getting so old. Boohoo, 60k h1bs a year aren't taking all your precious jerbs. Seriously it's time we find a country with a more mature administration for the next tech innovation hub.

Wow, I can't even.. I think you have an overly inferior view about anyone who is not American, stop putting America on a pedestal. Yes it does a bunch of things right but it could learn a lot of things from the rest of the world, which is far from fucked up.

Yeah this is an overly inferior view because you were saying with overly superior view, hence the response. Mature administration? Where? I understand emotional response but the truth is this is the best political system for a large country on earth like it or not. Very few if any have less corrupted government and no country at large scale like this.

From purely economics approach this means demand << supply --> comp up.

But like everything he says, I doubt it'll actually happen b/c all tech giants will lobby hard against it.

Reducing H1-B will ensure the best and the brightest come here to study and work.

They also need to change it based on skill set as well. For example, deep learning >> DBA.

Gifted folks can attend Stanford, Harvard, Caltech, etc, and they shouldn't compete w/DBA or lesser talent.

That will allow Americans take IT positions and will ensure the best and the brightest are here in specific skill sets.

Why would someone come to the USA? If you want the best and the brightest that doesn't mean they will come here :(

Wow, so many fucking morons in this thread. The reason the US is the tech hub it is today is due to immigration.

Why could not those immigrants do it in their home countries? You think of great visionaries but it is this country that provided a platform to succeed and that is extremely rare. Last I checked, Russia does not have anything close to Google. I have not heard of any car companies in South Africa. No smartphone companies from Syria and Jobs is not even first generation immigrant. When there is a great platform, someone will found a great company or build great products. Immigrants are extra here but not the main reason. Also these companies contribute a ton for US but that is not everything. Without them GDP may be slightly lower but it is not like US would have been a third world country. Basically, these tech companies compete primarily between each other in US companies. Japanese in their 90s had their moments along with German in 80s but after millennium no countries are competing in tech.

The reason is for a long time America was the land of immigrants and everyone realized the value that immigrants provide which enticed the best and brightest to come to this country. Believe me if people had been anti immigrant 30 years back like the current conditions then tech industry would not be born here. There would be no Silicon Valley in USA. Some other country that welcomed immigrants would have been the tech leader and America would have been the biggest loser
