AMD, Greater Boston Region, Offer for Design Engineer 2
95K base, 6k signon, no RSU

Cavium | Marvell, Greater Boston Region, Offer for Entry level Physical Design Engineer
107K base, 5k signon, 16K RSU over 4 years

Given Marvell's history, should I still join Marvell just because of higher TC? Marvell semiconductor was doing very bad before they acquired Cavium. They have fired the old CEO and have new management now.

I have been interning since last 5 months at AMD. Is it worth the switch for higher TC?

Also, I had accepted AMD offer and the next day I got this offer from Cavium | Marvell. Can I now reject AMD offer? What are the consequences of doing so?

  • Look for long term. These 10-15k is not going to make much difference. If the job profile is good at amd ..it is better to accept amd offer. Also I heard politics in marvel is pretty bad.
For your second question, if you tell amd in 1-2 days that you cannot join..it should be fine...just don't delay it.

Amd has great talent, you will earn more knowledge than the money you are losing.

My spouse worked at Marvel for a while (before the management change and acquisition of Cavium). It was a pretty miserable place at the time. AMD will give you a lot of different opportunities in terms cutting edge silicon as well as CPUs and GPUs. Based on that I would go with AMD for your first job.

As a first job being able to learn is most important, I am sorry you are not able to get it at AMD. You may want to let your manager again know and let him know that you are unhappy and would like to work on XYZ. Give it a few days, see if anything changes, if not accept the Cavium offer. You have nothing to lose!

I just realized that you wrote Boston Area, which means you are in a small office in Boxborough. Yes that office has basically one function, you won’t get the learning opportunities you want unless you move to Austin or Santa Clara. So safe to say that if you think Marvel would be a better learning opportunity, take their offer.
