Hi, everyone! First post on here. Sorry if it's not relevant to this app, but it seems it's free for all for whatever you want to post.

I landed my first tech role on Friday that's fully remote. We have two retreats a year (if COVID restrictions permit), but no home office or anything. This allows me to live wherever I want, and eventually travel once I'm comfortable and worked there a while.

I was offered 55K to start (it's not SWE lol), 60K after 6 months, and 65K after a year. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it's the most I've ever made in my life. I also come from a family who struggled financially greatly, so I am so relieved to know I won't have to work multiple jobs anymore just to pay my bills.

I currently live with relatives in Dallas, but my goal has been to move to Vancouver, WA and live on my own again (originally from IN and lost my job which caused me to have to move here).

Does anyone have any advice how to make this move happen? I'm open to any advice about anything involving this not just the move as well. Office electronics suggestions, apt suggestions, financial suggestions, etc.

P.S. my credit is really bad, so I already know that's going to make my move much harder. I'm 29 and had to live with people for entirely too long and I refuse to have roommates at this stage in my life.

Thank you in advance!!

    • Absolutely. There are a bunch of second hand stores too.

If you don't need anything special, check out Free Geek for computers and peripherals.

Very much so lol. My closest friend moved there in WA and loves it and I've always wanted to live in the PNW because it's so beautiful. It's close to Portland too, but cheaper than living there.

Yeah, only because my closest friend lives there and I don't want to move somewhere where I don't already know anyone

This is really big move for me, so really any advice! I'm super broke now, so I have no idea how much I'll need to save to make a comfortable move. I don't have any furniture or anything, so I'll be buying everything once I get there. If anyone is from the area, do you recommend certain complexes? You know just really any advice. Also, I've never worked from home, so what kind of monitors does everyone like? Other electronics? Standing desks or no?
