I am pretty aware that Amazon is known (at least here on Blind) for its shitty work culture and non existent wlb. I have seen below job offer though, that says they like wlb. Can it be true, as things depend on the team, or is it just a straight lie?

TC: Not relevant as I don’t work in the US;

      There thousands of teams at Amazon. The team with good WLB will advertise it. It could be a lie but that would surprise me since people joining and realizing it isn’t true will leave.

      @Amazon That is great to know, did the team you joined advertised wlb, and was it true?

    “Earlier” and “later” are intentionally vague if you noticed. It could be 1 hour earlier/later which is totally fine, it could also be 3 hrs earlier.later which is totally not fine

      Yeah, you’re right, it never says anything about how early or how late

      @Paypal 10-4 is mandatory, 3 hours before and 3 hours later is “strongly encouraged” specially during the review cycle

  • You need to learn to read through the lines with these things. If they’re saying it in a job ad, the real thing they’re saying is that despite the rest of the world moving to some sort of flexible model (including amazon), they expect you in the office nearly all the time. Yeah they have some flex on the specific hours in the office, but it tells you nothing about how much work you are expected to do outside of it (also true for any FAANG to be fair).

    None of this changes your question. The WLB might be fine on that team, but if anything that statement is a red flag to me.

      Yeah, I think you’re absolutely right. Thanks for the pointing the red flag.

    WLB doesn’t mean what they imply here. This is saying you can work any 16 hours a day and you can choose what time you start at 🤣
