Fellow blinders,
Let’s put this to rest: I have friends with a wide variety of jobs and I always notice stark differences in the vibes of their coworkers and mine.
(Don’t get me wrong, I’ve made some really close friends in the industry but) I wanted to pick your guys’ brains on if you ever also recognized that:
- Gender diversity is not a thing even though we’re trying. I’m not talking about working with women to date or fuck or anything creepy like that (I have a gf), but I miss working and interacting with both genders the way I did in college.
- Depending on the team, engineers can vary from highly introverted to somewhat extroverted. As an extrovert, I like having coworkers I can joke around with/have camaraderie with and strongly prefer the latter. But often I find myself needing to restrict my options significantly to find the right fit in teams.
- Given the nature of the job, it sometimes gets to me that I don’t end up collaborating and bonding with my team as hard as other more social occupations get to.
Curious if you guys ever felt this way? Are there any companies where you felt the social aspect was more geared towards what I described?
