Companies will adopt a hybrid system of in-office and WFH starting this September

I have been interviewing recently with companies across the US. Here's a trend that I noticed after talking to several hiring managers:

The companies will be moving towards a hybrid system of coming to office 2-3 days a week and working from home the rest of the week starting this September. Office attendance will be a requirement and certainly won't be optional. By not accommodating their entire work force in the office all the time, the companies intend to save a lot of money on office space. They will maintain half the size of pre-covid office space this way.

Also, the companies will require their employees not to live too far away from their offices. The employees won't be allowed to live in other states for sure anymore. This is both for tax purposes and accounting for COL.
