Well for every unsatisfied engg there are more than 10 happy folks to be honest. Been here for 6 yrs. Promoted twice. Had both good and bad managers. Whats more important is to choose a team that adds some revenue to amazon. Eg: EC2/S3/DDB/Aurora etc. Also make sure to learn the tooling if you really want to be successful. Is it the most user friendly tooling ?? Absolutely no. It sucks but not something that cannot be learnt. Takes a few months but once you understand, things are easy. If you see a problem, speak about it and better try to contribute to solve it. If you smell something bad in the first few months, change teams without thinking twice. If you choose high impact teams, there is a bright chance that the team is well managed with good documentation and good test infrastructure. Teams or orgs that consistently adds to amazon’s revenue is taken care of very well as there are more people watching it.
This is exactly right, you are only hearing from unhappy people. Blind is like Twitter , lots of yelling and screaming, but in reality only a super tiny percent of population is on the app and most go to have their voice heard
