Amazon is treating the worker doing the shit job really like shit. If Bezos and it’s high paid tech guys are really having a sense of social commitment, then the first what they should do is to raise the wage to 20-30 dollars, regardless of it earnings impact ..it’s absolutely ridiculous when I see some people earning a half million for programming and those guys bedding and fighting for existence even though got a job at amazon ..ridiculous..shame on amazon

You have no idea what you're talking about.

I guess the question in my mind is simple: When your boss is the richest man in the world by virtue of owning Amazon, and your company’s valuation is top 10 in the US, does a warehouse employee deserve a living wage? As a society we value tech workers higher, but as a member of Amazon, does an employee who perhaps works as hard, do they deserve to make a wage that does not force them to seek govt support?

There is a very good book titled “The good jobs strategy” that talks about this issue in detail. Not paying warehouse employee who actually pack and send the items to customers is a vey bad strategy in long term. Honestly one of the things I am proud of at Apple is how Tim and leadership treat the employees, even the lowest payroll ones

Right..... Just skip over the fact you guys use Foxconn and their wonderful working conditions 😂😂😂 get off your moral high horse dude. Even warehouse workers at Amazon get RSU.

Well ya, you cant sell cheap crap without cheap labor.

Sounds like they should change jobs if they’re not happy. If they stay, presumably it’s the best job around that they’re capable of landing?

They will all be replaced by robots soon enough and they won't need foodstamps.

Revinate JPQ Apr 29, 2018

Automation will end this. Might be what they are paying all those devs for. If someone is a lower level Amazon employee, their priority should be learning something new, if they can. Scary situation to be in.

Aren't warehouse jobs considered as temporary or a stepping stone? I do remember hearing Amazon subsidizing most of the costs of education in high demand areas to people who work in fulfillment centers. Whether people take advantage of that or just try to stay stagnant is not really on Amazon though

Intel DSPN81 Apr 29, 2018

The robots don’t need food stamps, and the true minimum wage is $0.

Amazon Hooliganss Apr 29, 2018

Not really. They need pretty frequent maintenance

Intel DSPN81 Apr 29, 2018

I may have not written that clearly; my point is that the human earns $0/hr when replaced by a machine, hence that is the true min wage.

I’m confused by a few things. The article doesn’t say “1 in 3” Amazon employees is on food stamps. It says that in 4 states, Amazon is among the Top 20 employers with employees on Food stamps. In some states, this proportion is 1/10 employees in ONE mentioned state (AZ) it is 1/3. I’m sure we can mostly say that should be zero but then I wonder: How many of these people are full time employees? If all then that’s terrible. If none, then we get into a debate about whether or not “part time” workers should earn a certain amount. The article completely glossed over the PT vs FT question by saying the author didn’t check because Amazon says “most” FC jobs are full time so she assumed. I don’t think the question is about Amazon. Pick any industry and I’m sure you can find the same. As our President basically said “don’t hate the player hate the game” about his finances I believe half of America is okay with this. They can’t be wrong. If people in any state (including WA) want a change there’s a simple solution. Stop voting idiots into political office and allowing them to treat corporations with more respect than you.
