Hi, I got offer at GS for 100k base salary in NYC along with 30k relocation, 15k annual bonus and other standard GS benefits. The position is new grad software developer. Is this a good offer for a new Grad for the Manhattan office? I just finished bachelors degree last month. Ps: I plan to live on the other side of the river probably Jersey City to get past the housing cost in NYC. Will this help?
Good salary but shitty company to work for. Make sure to ask about time requirements
Good offer. Leave after a year.
145k tc? But next year it will be 115k? Since relocation is only once? Not sure how it works but 145k new grad is solid offer. I heard there are long hours at gs but otherwise that’s a nice offer
It is the standard Goldman Sachs offer although that relocation is pretty high. Depending on team, you may have to work a lot or very little. I interned for a similar investment bank and lived in Jersey city. The commute is okay if you live close to one of the path train stations but honestly, I would just recommend finding a place in manhattan because the apartments around the path train are either shitty or really expensive.
> I would just recommend finding a place in manhattan because the apartments around the path train are either shitty or really expensive. Also it’s in Jersey. You’ll be living next to one of the most cities in the world and you’ll be spectated from it by the Hudson River, and a barely functional PATH system. If you want to avoid the expense of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn are better options. Though since it’s Goldman if you live in JC, it’s a cakewalk of a commute to work and back from Jersey to the Goldman building in Battery Park. Still not worth it though.
I started with 30k less that too after having masters. Take it.
Lol I will not go to GS for even double of that. Shitty company
Weird flex but ok. Edit: Microsoft guy/gal clarified some truly BS behavior at GS.
I agree .. but they pissed me of real bad .
I just relocated to NY from the west coast and 110 is doable. I personally feel like it isn’t enough but maybe that’s me. Also JC is as much as Manhattan sometimes or even more so. Brooklyn has some good places in the Jay st area and it’s the same price as JC
Move to Brooklyn or queens that has express bus. The ride is much more expensive but much cheaper than rent in manhattan. Also the bus ride is nice. Short walk usually with WiFi and ac. Compared to nasty smelly sardine packed trains at rush hour. You’ll be next to cranky sweaty people every day. Takes a toll on you. If you can find a place close to an express bus you can study comfortably on the bus
Everyone telling you to move to queens or Brooklyn are high. From queens would literally be an hour minimum. GS is in jersey city. Live close to your job and take the path into Manhattan when you want to. Cost of living is lower, taxes are lower, and grove st is a pretty decent spot.
Solid offer
