How important is a college degree for big tech? I have 15 YOE in Australia, full-stack/serverless/node/etc, but my application to Snap got rejected within hours. I'm applying to others just not used to radio silence/rejection. TC: 180k
It can be useful for getting a visa for another country. But agree with atinlay, you weren't rejected due to lack of degree.
Not important with that yoe
8 years of relevant experience is considered an equivalent for bachelor's degree.
YoE > degree. I have no degree and 3 YoE and can get interviews basically anywhere. (Except Lyft. For some reason, they don’t even want to try to interview me, haha)
I feel like that would be the case if I was on-shore.
Possibly. Maybe find recruiters on LinkedIn and reach out?
If you are applying in the US, you shouldn’t just apply online. Contact someone who works in the company (friend, friend of friend, former colleague, LinkedIn connection etc) and ask them to refer your resume. Otherwise radio silence is pretty standard.
I'm going the referral route where possible.
Not going the referral route is almost equivalent to not applying at all! It’s a back hole where resumes go to die.
That’s probably not why you got rejected
