No poll?! Also stay in Dallas. Oakland is in the Bay. That place is too damn expensit
I'm almost saving 60% of my salary here, it might go down to 40% in Oakland even after the 150k base.. But good places to travel before having kids is what lures me there.
How Sirius are you about moving to California?
Haha good one.. I crack that with my Pandora team mates all the time lol. Depends on what this poll says. I have until Monday to let my manager know.
Expensive***
FYI : I'm 31, wife might start working next year once we get her EAD, no kids, lots of energy to do outdoorsy things, no loans, 2 cars and a naked bike. The plan is the enjoy California before having kids, and then if it isn't affordable even after my wife starts working and we have kids.. Come back to Texas.. Perhaps Austin and not Dallas.
Go for it. Just stay for a year and explore some place new. Sounds like you’re in a low risk situation
Are they covering the cost of your move?
Nope.. Since it's an internal move that I asked for and wasn't a team/company requirement.
Don't move, it's not worth it for $150k in my opinion. Bay Area is super expensive and moving here is a headache.
Dallas. By all means. The salary difference won’t make much difference due to CA state income tax and cost of living.
I'm aware of that.. It pretty much would be similar, may be a little less.. But there's almost nothing to do in Dallas.. When I'm older I might like Dallas better. Been here for 4 years.. Sort of inclined to California for the travel and the fact that I don't have kids right now.
Then you already know where your heart it. Why bother asking others :)
Sounds like you want to move. 150k will definitely be tough being a single earner, but east bay is relatively cheaper so should be able to make it work. If your plan is to explore the area, by all means. Lot of outdoor stuff to do.
Yeah sort of.. There should be at least 20k more in stocks and bonuses every year though. By east bay do you mean Fremont/Milpitas?
East Bay literally refers to everything East of the San Francisco Bay. Typically all the cities up and down I-880, I-680 and everything along I-580 between those freeways. The cities of Oakland, Richmond, Berkeley, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Concord, Pleasanton, Livermore, Hayward, etc.
Take flights from Dallas and travel anywhere you like.. no point of moving to bay area and live like homeless
Yeah i did think about that too. Makes sense to some extent as long as the vacations aren't to frequent and not long. Otherwise yes.. Once in a while totally makes sense..
Live in Dallas now, as a single person prolly have more fun in the bay, Dallas is nice for boring family life cheaply
Dallas is nice for a boring family life and if you want to live cheaply. Agreed!

Where do you want to live?
Office is in Oakland.. So anywhere within a 45 minute commute radius should be fine.
I meant between Oakland and Dallas
