My Google recruiter did not mention a system design interview, and I walked into one on my onsite. On the same note, my Waymo recruiter told me there would be a non-coding design interview, but that didn't happen on the onsite.
I even shared my Google experience with my Waymo recruiter and requested her to check and confirm interview topics with me so I wouldn't have to deal with any sudden surprises, I'm still in disbelief that this happened a second time. Did this happen to anyone else?
Would it be fair for me to get another shot at the interview, given the possible miscommunication?

Not expecting system design interview
๐
That said, I don't believe a candidate should expect to know their questions/topics in advance. I've been zapped before by being told an interview would be non-technical and then it turned out to be technical... It happens.
