Is FAANG worth it even when you like your current job and TC is reasonable?
Hello!
I’ve been conflicted with pursuing positions at Netflix or Apple. My TC at Nike is roughly 270k. I’m happy with it. I love the people I work with. At times the work can be boring and at times it can be very fun. Generally I have great work life balance and there are opportunities for me to grow. I also love sports, and the power of sport so being at Nike culturally is enjoyable. I’ve been at Nike 3 years now. I do feel comfortable here, but not necessarily complacent as I still want to grow and make a big impact for the company.
Yet I am 31 and I keep thinking that I am doing the wrong thing by not pursuing a FAANG company. I can make significantly more money which would ultimately help my family.
Have you struggled with this before? What makes you stay at your company and not go to FAANG? (Besides the time it takes to prep and interview for them)

You’re evaluating FAANG incorrectly. You’re assuming it’s more pay, while ignoring all the other stars that need to align in order for your assumption to be realized.
Finding a company you like is hard, you already found one.
Finding a team you like is hard, you already found one.
Finding a high paying job with WLB is hard, you already found one.
Finding a good boss is hard, sounds like you have one.
Don’t be stupid. Stay where you’re at, and practice the art of being humble and not wanting. You’re creating anxiety out of thin air. Nike is a great company, and if you’re still happy, still relatively challenged, still seeing opportunity to move around or up....
Meditate, find a hobby, get balance, whatever it is. Just appreciate you’ve got the stars to align, and know that most don’t, and that you’ll put all that at risk making a move.
I wish there was a more active / sporty culture at msft. Nike sounds great if you can achieve that TC while there.
