Staying for 5 years PhD then 3 years opt only to be forced out of the country is just unreal.
Not all qualify for o1 or eb1

Yeah at least this is a better reason than the other thread about races in universities.

  • Why are immigrants so entitled to US perks (citizenship, green cards, visas)?

Our countries donโ€™t offer all these programs yet we want US to give us everything?

When you got whatever visa you have, there was no agreement between you and the consular officer about future immigration prospects.

Otherwise, I wonder why I canโ€™t just go to India/China/Switzerland/Germany/X and become a permanent resident. Yet, we want to go to US and feel entitled to residency.

who said open border? no country wants criminals, incompetents, but all the eb1, eb2 etc are merit based immigration. the folks who got stuck in the stupid long queue are as qualified as your ancestors if not better. this is the most outright discrimination in today's america, stop defending it, you idiot!

"they should let every Tom, Dick and Harry"

I am literally talking about Phds that invested a significant amount of time doing research and creating value. Then going to work at top companies and will be paying 100s of thousands of $ of taxes for a long time.
At this point, I think being an illegal immigrant is an easier route to getting a green card than being a highly qualified individual.

  • PhDs should come with a green card and a fast track to citizenship, but accepting US citizenship at the end of the fast track should require the person to renounce their home country citizenship.

In other words, the US should welcome and retain exceptional talent, but not allow foreigners to come and get trained and then return to their home countries who are our geopolitical enemies (China).

China doesn't allow dual citizenship so if a Chinese person wants to get US citizenship, they have to renounce Chinese citizenship. So yes, the citizenship part is already the case.

  • All phds are not equal. All phds from legit ( top ranked / mid tier/ low tier) univ are not equal. Get off your high ๐ŸŽ. If they can't qualify for o1 or eb1, they are not legit
