Joining FB as a new grad in a few months.

How good are the employee shuttles? Do you prefer to take them over Caltrain and BART? How long is your average commute?

I am deciding if I should stick to looking for accommodation in Menlo Park or room with some of my friends working in San Mateo or South Bay.

TC: around 180K amortized over 4 years

The shuttles are convenient for the most part and the upside to public transportation is they have WiFi (so you can be productive on the commute) and comfortable leather seats. They’re delayed sometimes which is annoying but then again so is BART and at least if the shuttle is delayed more than a certain about of minutes we get a Lyft code to get to work. Best to look at the shuttle routes/schedule near you (might be able to ask your recruiter for this) and decide from there based on how the timing works with your schedule.

It would take way too long for me personally to take BART but there are Clipper Card programs for the commute if you want to go that route or Caltrain.

  • The shuttles are great. Fairly frequent and have pretty good coverage. Would prefer not to commute that long obviously.

The shuttles are pretty nice but you can't beat a short bike ride into work
