Got H1b last year, What is the latest by when the Green Card processing should start? To make sure there are no issues with extending the visa ?

You can start the GC process on day 1 at google. I just received my GC earlier this month on F1 visa

The whole process took 1.3 years for me. Account for at least 2 years though

Yes from UK. Applied for GC straight out of college, skipped the whole H1B process.

Have a friend (also UK) at Cisco who tried to do the same, but Cisco wouldn’t let them apply for GC on F1. Fortunately, they got the H1B on their last attempt.

      Choose your company wisely.

You just need to make sure you have an approved i140 before you have to apply for your second h1b extension. Bake in perm and i140 timelines and work backwards from that.

Or to keep it simple, start your gc work asap. Yesterday was the best time and tomorrow is the next best time.

As soon as possible. Stay away from any company that is not willing to start the process shortly after joining. Wayfair for example does it after 90 days.

  • PWR takes 6-8 months
Recruitment takes 4-5 months but can be done in parallel with PWR.
    PERM takes 6-8 months

I-140 you can do in 15 days with premium processing or 6 months without it.

Add company and attorney processing time to that e.g. my company took 4 months just to prepare and file PWR.

    The answer is ASAP.
