I’m in a non technical role but am 40 years old and an IC. Have managed in the past but no direct path to manager now. Will I have a hard time keeping a job long term or getting a new one given this? Regularly working for people my age or younger. 5 yrs at FB, good ratings (MA’s, EE’s, even a GE)
TC: $170k/ yr

I’ve made it very clear to my Manager and current directors that I want to move into Management by the end of the year as it maps to my longer term goals but tbh I’m not holding my breathe.
I don’t feel discriminated against by my younger peers, quite the opposite actually, they inspire me! That said, I’ve been actively seeking out Mentors that are older than me for perspective and career advice which is helping me understand that there’s opportunity in any pathway you choose (IC or Manager) even we’ll into your 50’s!
I’m not resigning myself to my current IC role and I’m making efforts to move into Management, if not in my current team, then elsewhere.
