Recruiters keep changing date/time of conversation after clearing onsite. Power play?

Aug 27, 2021 5 Comments

I have seen it happen couple of times throughout my career, recruiter changing mutually agreed upon time, not agreeing to the first few preferences of date/time for conversation. Literally always takes me more than 2 tries to agree on a time to talk. I understand people can be busy, but seen it enough to disregard it as coincidence.

Always observed this behavior after clearing on-site and when its time for comp negotiations. Could be a power play? To assert who has power in the conversation? Or am i thinking too much into it?

You’re overthinking it. Recruiters are busy as hell and have to deal with a ton of other people’s schedules

    • That would make sense if the hiring is for a specific team with limited opening(s). Seen it at big places with general hiring and i think more headcount.

  • Recruiters are late because we are at the mercy of candidate and hiring manager schedules. I've been a tech recruiter for a long time and can promise you that we're not that calculating.

  • Even i have seen this at Google. Recruiter will never come on time for a call. Seems power play only. But the moment lets say you clear HC or something then recruiter is behind you to make you join.
