Currently at 1 year 10 months of experience at Microsoft Research as a machine learning engineer, a Snap and Lyft recruiter contacted me for ML engineer roles. However Snap recruiter did say hiring managers generally looking for 2.5 - 3 YOE, and I am not yet at the sweet spot. So I am not sure how many hiring managers would be truly interested in taking me on right now despite recruiter contact. I spoke with many other company recruiters, such as Robinhood, Waymo, Uber and Tesla, and most places are looking for people with more years of experience for machine learning engineer, and thus these companies are considering me for infra roles. Currently I am at Microsoft Research working as a MLE so I think I have good experience in ML, but lesser in YOE than desired. What would be a good strategy? How easy is it for ML infra engineers to transition to MLE with only ML infra experience?
