I797 update after booking visa appointment

I'm planning to book Dropbox visa appointment in India with old I797 info. My new I797 will be filed only in a month or so but I prefer not waiting until then due to shortages in appts. I know I can update my profile in cgi portal with new ds160 info later but can I update I797 number (and start/end date) after my appt is booked? 'Update profile' has the option to only update ds160 number.

Currently, I haven't booked the slot yet and therefore I can click 'back' and go all the way to first page to update that detail but once I book an appointment, I cannot do that via 'update profile' option.

Wondering if it's safe to book anyway with old I797 details and update only new ds160 number and perhaps ask person at Dropbox counter to update I-797 details? Also assuming Visa officer is going to rely on ds160 details than what's being filled on cgi portal?

  • Yes you can update ds 160 upto 24/48 (I forget exact time) before appointment. I've read that your can also take a new Ds160 the day of your interview if you need to correct any info.

      Thanks! I'll update/take new ds160 which will have new i797 and ask officer at dropbox to help update and let cgi portal have the old i797 details.
