I put in my two weeks notice at my previous employer (company_A) on 07/18/19 but they walked me out on the same day. My understanding was that my employment with company_A ended the same day. So I joined my current company (Samsung) from 07/22/19 and has been on their payroll. But I recently found out that company_A actually paid me for the two weeks after they walked me out and I was technically on their payroll even thought I did not physically work for them. And during those two weeks, I also worked for Samsung. Both on separate H1B. I know that you can only "work" for one employer at a time on H1B. But how is the "work" defined? Is it based on the payroll dates or actually working for the employer? Am I in big trouble for overlap in my employment? Any way I can fix this?
Popcorn 🍿 time
It should be fine. In my case my paid vacation was paid after I joined another company. USCIS doesn't monitor paychecks.
It is based on last day worked (which in your case was the day they walked you out)
How does uscis record or know this? At least with pay you have pay stubs to price out. But with work how to prove the day
It's a payroll thing. On your last check (if a check is given) and in final paperwork and HR/Payroll files they indicate "paid through" & "last day worked".
Even though it is not allowed I guess uscis will never come to know. Also they don’t have time to track such things.
This might be too small for USCIS to track
It’s fine
OP, were you able to figure it out? Was/will there be any issue? I am in the same situation so looking for some insights
Same here. I am under the impression that you cannot be paid by multiple employers on an overlapping time.
in the same situation laid off a month back but my termination date is overlapping my next job date with a week. Not sure what trouble it might cause because now its too late.
If you had active H1Bs from both companies (likely you did because the previous company would not be sending H1B termination notice before your formal termination date), then you should be fine.
@gilead so the overlap is okay correct thought I would be receiving a paycheck from both.

U can work for as many companies as u want as long as they all hold a valid h1
This is the correct answer (even though it’s typed on a Blackberry)
Haha this is complete bullshit, how does this have 7 likes?! On H1b you can work for ONE company only. In fact, you can't have any other income!
