Hi All - first-time poster....

I have received an offer from a local marketing agency for 70k with a pension, great benefits, more PTO, holidays off, and affordable insurance.

Was leaving a job (making 62k) for this job.

My current company came back and counter-offered at 80k to meet salary and offset the horrible benefits (expensive insurance, low 401k match, etc.)

I need to make a decision but pretty stuck.... jobs are both media buyers (my old job is in B2B and my new job is B2C) #jobquestion

I'm not really sure I love or hate the job, I feel very indifferent. Horrible benefits were my main reason to leave but they are trying to over compensate to help with the cost of high medical.

I do fear if I take the counter, they will add more work to my plate because I'll be the highest-paid in my dept.

  • I might rephrase TMG's question to, what's your motivation to stay and what motivated you to start looking? It sounds like the primary reason would just be the bump in salary but it sounds like with the terrible benefits it maybe just matches the $70k.

You can always take the counteroffer back to the new company and see if they will match. I've heard from a few recruiters that most people who accept a counteroffer only stay at the company another year. If that's the case, would you be okay restarting job hunting in a year?

I might also think about if you want to be in B2B or B2C long term. Further into your career it might be hard to switch from one to the other.
